La Crema, Falles de Valencia

La Mascleta
Wednesday was the final day of the festival. We watched the final mascleta in the afternoon then toured the city for most of the afternoon, checking out the rest of the displays and stopping for bunuelos and hot chocolate followed by agua de valencia.

In the evening, at 10, they start burning the displays, beginning with the small displays. For the remainder of the evening we followed the fireworks and the burnings until the last statue was burned at 2 a.m. You can watch some of the footage below.

Footage from La Crema, Falles de Valencia 2014.

Part way through the last clip the crowd surged backwards recoiling from the heat.  The footage is crazy for a while as I fought my way through all those people.  You can tell at the end that I am at the very front of the crowd.  It was blazing hot and you could feel bits of ash and debris raining down on you.

Here are a few more shots from La Crema.
