Packing Test

With three weeks until take-off, we had a heavy weight on our shoulders - literally. Our Kelty Redwing packs were overloaded. Jason's camera bag alone weighs 5 lbs. and his obligatory suit jacket isn't much lighter. Obviously my dainty lady stuff weighs nothing and I don't need to downsize. #delusional

We've heard that you should lay out everything you want to take and then get rid of half of it. (Cue Tenacious D: "Take two of the nuggets and throw them away!") Out went the excess socks, underwear, and t-shirts. I lost a skirt and leggings and two shirts. Of course, in repacking we also gained gear we left out in our first packing test. Universal plugins, my camera and charger, cards and a cribbage board, etc. I am not sure we actually lost weight but we did make room for some actual necessities (we don't go anywhere without cribbage).

Here are the results:

 Two Kelty Redwings ~50L

Jason's stuff
Maren's stuff (I promise it weighs less than Jason's!)

Stay tuned for our next iteration!

  1. Could you list out what you're packing? We're going in two months for the first time and I really don't know what to pack. Thanks!

The primary things I've ditch since we first started test-packing were my light colored shirts and undershirts, striped skirt and leggings (I LOVED but the black dress is more universal), and a second cardigan.

    4. Ok, so I'm just now seeing this. Thank you for the lists. We're leaving in three days (yikes!) and still aren't solid on what we're taking.

As to where we're going: London, Amsterdam, the Rhine Valley, Munich, Austrian Alps, Venice, Rome, Florence, Lucerne, Paris, and back to London to fly home.

Were you guys cold over there? It looks like it's going to be high 50s to mid 60s and I'm worried I'm going to freeze.

    5. I HATE the cold and I can say I was never freezing (and I'm the whiney "omg it's so cold I'm going to die" type). I brought a medium weight waterproof jacket and a cardigan and that was it. It was a little chilly at night and on the coast - that was the only time I wore the jacket and the cardigan together. Usually one or the other was perfect. Italy was no-jacket weather. And always a scarf but that was mostly for fashion, not function.

You have an awesome itinerary - I hope you love it all! You can't go wrong no matter where you go over there (although England will always be my first love). Have a great time!!
